Fat Freezing Cryolipolysis

Cooltech Cryolipolysis Fat Freezing

It’s impossible to reduce specific areas of stubborn fat through diet and exercise alone – when losing fat, you

lose it from everywhere, and not always from where you want it to go from. If you could get rid of fat from wherever you wanted to, we’d all do it! One way to get rid of stubborn pockets of fat from your thighs, arms, stomach and buttock is through cryolipolysis, a pioneering “fat freezing” treatment that can provide dramatic inch loss through a non-invasive method that requires no scalpels or needles.

What is Cryolipolysis?

Cryolipolysis is the medical term for the destruction of fat cells, also known as lipolysis, through freezing, also known as cryo. It is sometime just abbreviated as cryolipo. Cooltech fat freezing works on the premise that fat cells are more susceptible to cold temperatures than skin cells, which means that freezing temperatures can destroy fat cells without having an impact on the outer layer of skin. The phenomenon of fat destruction caused by freezing is nothing new: it is known as “popsicle panniculitis” – so-called because scientists observed that children who regularly sucked on popsicles (the American term for ice lollies) were more likely to develop dimples in their cheeks, due to an incredibly localised inflammatory process.

During this inflammatory process, the fat cells become ruptured and damaged. This rupturing of the fat cells causes their contents to be released, whereby they will then be flushed out of your body, reducing the visible fat underneath the surface of the skin.

During treatment, the Cooltech applicator will be positioned in the treatment area. A vacuum will then be applied, “sucking” up the skin, resulting in a cold, pulling sensation. The temperature will be gradually lowered until it reaches -7 or -8°C, slowly freezing the fat cells. The treatment takes approximately 70 minutes and is usually easily tolerated, which means that clients can relax, listen to music or even work whilst the treatment takes place. Although the initial sensation will take a few minutes to get used to.

Following treatment, the treated area will likely feel hot and may be slightly swollen or bruised. The aesthetic practitioner will then massage the treated area to reduce any swelling. Any redness will typically disappear within a few hours, while bruises may take a few weeks to disappear. Some clients will experience slight numbness in the treated area for approximately one to eight weeks.

There is no down time associated with cryolipolysis and clients can return to their regular activities immediately following treatment. Treatment is generally suitable for all clients, but it can only reduce fat cells in stubborn fat pockets – it cannot remove large areas of fat and is not a weight-loss solution. “Over-removal” isn’t possible, as there will always be enough fat cells left to fill in any gaps which means that there will not be any depressions or bumps in the skin – during the two to four months following treatment, the fat layer will be reduced, although many clients report seeing a different within four weeks.
One cryolipolysis session typically results in a 20% decrease in fat in the treated area, although this will differ from client to client and will depend upon the size of the fat roll and the area being treated. Many clients achieve their desired results after one session, but some clients may require up to three.

Results of Cooltech cryolipolysis are permanent, provided that the client maintains a healthy lifestyle and diet following treatment in order to maintain their weight.

Find out if Cooltech cryolipolysis is the right treatment for you by contacting Hilton Skin Clinics to book a consultation.

Hyperhidrosis/Excessive Sweating

Causes of Hyperhidrosis

There are two types of hyperhidrosis, primary hyperhidrosis and secondary hyperhidrosis.

Medical opinion tends to agree that primary hyperhidrosis is caused by problems with the sympathetic nervous system. When we sweat, it is usually because our sympathetic nervous system has sent a signal from the brain to the sweat (eccrine) glands in order to regulate body temperature – sweating cools us down. In hyperhidrosis patients, it is thought that there may be a problem with the part of the brain that sends signals to the eccrine glands, so that they produce sweat even though there is no need to regulate body temperature.

In secondary hyperhidrosis (where the excessive sweating is caused by an underlying medical condition or problem), causes include:

  • The menopause
  • An over-active or under-active thyroid gland
  • Being drunk or being “high” on drugs
  • Withdrawing from alcohol or drugs
  • Taking medications, including anti-depressants, tamoxifen and gonadotropin-releasing hormone antagonist
  • Some medical conditions, including leukemia, lymphoma, HIV, tuberculosis and Parkinson’s disease

Treatment

Lifestyle changes, such as minimising stress, avoiding known triggers, wearing clothes made from all-natural fibres and using medically-approved anti-perspirant sprays can help to reduce hyperhidrosis symptoms. At Hilton Skin Clinics, we offer botulinum toxin treatment (Botox) to reduce the production of sweat in those with excessive underarm sweating (primary axillary hyperhidrosis). During treatment, our Advanced Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner will inject Botox into the armpits (between 12 and 20 injections) in a procedure that takes less than 40 minutes. The botulinum toxin blocks the signals from the brain to the sweat glands, interrupting the faulty signals that may have been causing excessive sweat, reducing sweat production. The effects of treatment typically last for 2-8 months and follow-up treatments will usually be needed to maintain the reduced levels of sweating.

If you think you suffer from hyperhidrosis and would like to know if you could be treated at Hilton Skin Clinics, please contact us today.

IV Drip Therapy

What is Intravenous Vitamin Therapy or IV Vitamin Infusion?

Vitamin infusion treatments have proven to be a celebrity favourite with the likes of Rhianna, Cara Delevingne, Madonna and Simon Cowell using them as a health treatment so they can keep up with their hectic schedules.

Many people turn to energy drinks and other stimulants when they need to ‘keep on going’, but this is not a healthy choice and provides only temporary relief from the symptoms, combined with a ‘come down’, as also experienced with ‘sugar highs’; all of which is simply not good for us. Eating properly and taking oral multi-vitamins is also an option, but often this isn’t practical and our bodies won’t always absorb them correctly or make the most efficient use of what we take in by mouth. Vitamin therapy, given by direct infusion into your vein, is a much better and quicker way of delivering all the vitamins and minerals that your body may be lacking.

Intravita Drips

At Hilton Skin Clinics we offer the Intravita range of intravenously delivered vitamin therapy.

Intravita is a professional product comprising carefully created IV drips which are manufactured in a laboratory environment, aimed at delivering safe and effective doses of key ingredients.

By establishing your symptoms, lifestyle and health presentation, such as tiredness, malaise, stress, anxiety, low immune system etc. we can determine the key vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants and energy boosting ingredients that your body could benefit from having ‘an injection of’.

Direct delivery by IV drip gets the deficiencies addressed in the quickest way to get you back at the top of your game.

Which Vitamins And Minerals Are Important To Our Bodies?

There are a variety of key vitamins and minerals that our bodies require to function properly, which help to give us healthy skin, bones, blood and make sure that all the primary systems within our body work properly and effectively. Some of them are so important that if we were missing them entirely from our diet we could eventually die – I’m sure you have all heard about early sailors dying from scurvy at sea due to a lack of vitamin C from fresh fruit and vegetables. Vitamin C is indeed an essential nutrient to help us to maintain good health and development but with busy lives it can often be lacking from our daily diet if we don’t get our ‘5-a-day’.

Another important vitamin is B-12, this plays an important role in our blood and ensuring that our brains and nervous system work normally – particularly useful to not be deficient in this if you want to be on the top of your game for work.

But it’s not just vitamins, despite the name of this treatment, anti-oxidants and minerals are also vitally important to our bodies.

Glutathione is an anti-oxidant that helps our bodies to metabolise iron and repairs our DNA. This anti-oxidant is commonly deficient in sports people, such as athletes and anyone pushing their body with intensive training for an event like as a marathon or endurance activity.

Magnesium Sulphate is also key as low levels of magnesium in our bodies can give us muscle cramps, feelings of weakness and even the shakes.

The mineral Calcium Gluconate is also important for our bones and is often used when we see low levels of calcium in the blood due to a vitamin D deficiency, which is more common in the winter months when there is a lack of sun which is how we get most of our vitamin D; not from our food.

All the bespoke options within the Intravita range are able to ‘put back’ these core supplements.

What Can it Treat?

It’s very common to be deficient in certain vitamins and minerals that our body needs to function properly and to be as healthy as possible. We often don’t eat the right foods, drink the right drinks (including too much alcohol), or get enough sleep to provide our body with the primary supplements that we need to maintain the right balance.

The bespoke Intravita IV drips that we offer at Hilton Skin Clinics will literally ‘put back’ a variety of vitamins and minerals to treat deficiencies to improve feelings of tiredness, malaise, stress or anxiety, as well as boosting a poor immune system which can leave you feeling run-down, over-worked and even over-partied. This range even has drips which can assist with anti-ageing treatments, and make a good addition to any aesthetic treatment programme that you may be undertaking to improve the condition of your skin, and to maintain a healthy and youthful complexion.

Types of Vitamin Infusions

The Intravita range offers a variety of bespoke preparations to truly target the health symptoms and lifestyle concerns that you are trying to address.

Solutions available include:

  • IV Ultimate Classic Drip is aimed at producing increased energy, aiding better sleep and increasing endurance through a mix of intravenous vitamins and minerals plus the added bonus of high dose glutathione for overall wellness.
  • IV Anti-Ageing Drip fights ageing, restores collagen and even improves skin tone with a high dose glutathione and a mix of nutrients.
  • IV Athlete/Sport Drip contains high concentrations of all the energy boosting B vitamins and amino acids specifically aimed at those who lead a sporty and active lifestyle or who are in training.

  • IV Relaxation Drip has a positive effect on peach of mind, improves concentration and aids restorative sleep. It is a combination drip solution using Intravita’s Ultimate Classic Drip with a high dose of glutamine, carnitine and ornithine to aid balance in stressful situations.

We also have single booster treatments of the IV B12 Drip for a boost of vitamin B12 and IV Antioxidant Drip which contains a boost of glutathione.

Laser Hair Removal

WHAT IS LASER HAIR REMOVAL?

Here at Hilton Skin Clinics, we use the latest-generation Soprano ICE Platinum to administer laser hair removal to clients. Effortlessly advanced and cutting-edge, this technology offers three different wavelengths of light to provide a tailored, specified treatment to produce the best possible hair reduction results for you.

Laser hair removal can be used on a variety of areas on the body, including:

  • Legs
  • Armpits & arms
  • Face
  • Bikini line & other intimate areas
  • Back & chest

Suitable for Everyone?

Typically, laser hair removal is considered to be most effective on those with pale skin and dark hair. This is because the hair pigment dramatically contrasts with skin colour, resulting in a higher rate of light absorption.

But, due to the range of wavelengths available with the Soprano ICE Platinum, laser hair removal here with us is equally effective on lighter hair colours and darker, more tanned skin.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

What Causes PCOS?

The exact cause of PCOS is unknown, although it is thought to be hereditary. PCOS is often associated with abnormal hormone levels within the body, with insulin in particular thought to play a part. Many women with PCOS have high levels of insulin (the hormone that controls sugar levels), which is in turn thought to contribute to an increase in the production and activity of male hormones, such as testosterone. Being overweight tends to increase the amount of insulin present in the body, which could increase your risk of polycystic ovary syndrome.

Symptoms of PCOS

Polycystic ovaries contain a number of cysts of up to 8mm in size. They’re completely harmless by themselves, but the symptoms that occur alongside PCOS can cause a number of problems. The cysts are actually under-developed sacs where eggs develop. In polycystic ovary syndrome, these sacs are often unable to release eggs, which is why ovulation can be patchy or infrequent at best. The symptoms of PCOS normally start to show when a woman reaches later teens or early twenties.

Symptoms of PCOS include:

  • Irregular periods or cessation of periods.
  • Problems getting pregnant, due to irregular ovulation.
  • Hirsutism (excessive hair growth), on the face, neck, chest, back and buttocks.
  • Weight gain.
  • Thinning hair and even hair loss.
  • Acne and oily skin.

Treating PCOS

There is no “cure” for PCOS. Instead, sufferers are advised to adjust their lifestyle to ease symptoms and to use medications, if necessary for fertility concerns. For example, weight loss and eating a healthy, balanced diet can greatly help PCOS sufferers. Our in-house nutritionist can advise on diet and lifestyle changes which may reduce the severity of PCOS symptoms. Other symptoms can be controlled with a range of treatments. At Hilton Skin Clinics, we use laser hair removal to help treat and control the excess hair growth associated with PCOS.

Laser Hair Removal

During treatment, the laser hair removal device uses targeted, focussed light to penetrate the epidermis. The pigment within the hair absorbs the light, effectively destroying the hair follicle. This removes hair and helps to hinder further hair growth, leaving skin smooth and hair-free. A course of treatments is usually recommended so that hair in all stages of the growth cycle can be targeted. Treatment is relatively painless and takes between ten and forty minutes, depending on the area being treated.

Sclerotherapy / Microsclerotherapy

What are Thread Veins?

Thread veins are harmless, but they can cause psychological distress, especially when the veins appear on an area of the legs that are particularly exposed. This may lead the individual to not wear shorts or skirts or expose their legs or feet at all in public. Thread veins tend to appear just underneath the surface of skin and can be red, blue or purple in colour and are usually up to 1-2mm in diameter. They are not a serious medical issue, but can sometimes cause aches and pains. A number of factors can contribute to thread veins, including weight gain, standing for long periods of time and the hormonal changes that often occur in pregnancy.

How it Works

Although thread veins are most common on the face and legs, we only use sclerotherapy to treat thread veins on the legs due to the minimal risk of scarring. Thread veins are not to be confused with varicose veins.

During sclerotherapy, a chemical solution (called a sclerosing agent) is injected into the veins at various points along them. This solution irritates the lining of the veins, and this, along with the compression that occurs after treatment, induces vein collapse. Over time, the body absorbs the veins, significantly improving the appearance of treated area, resulting in legs that are free of unsightly veiny areas and more youthful in appearance. Because treatment is painless, no anaesthetic is required and downtime is minimal. Once injected, it is important that the veins remain collapsed. The nurse practitioner will also recommend that you wear compression stockings following treatment to promote healing. These compression stockings should be worn day and night for 3 days and then just during the day for 3 days.

Results

Results will typically be seen within a few weeks of the first treatment. Although veins will fade after one treatment, you may need a course of two to four treatments spaced four to six weeks apart. Some patients will require more treatments and some less.

Sclerotherapy is a safe and effective therapy suitable for treating thread veins on the legs. For more information about sclerotherapy and the other treatments we provide for treating thread veins, contact Hilton Skin Clinics today.

Skin Tag Removal

WHAT ARE SKIN TAGS?

Skin tags are small, flesh-coloured or brown growths that “hang” off the skin. They are very common and are typically only a few millimetres in size, although some can grow to 5cm. Skin tags are usually found on the neck, in the armpits and groin, under the breasts, around the eyelids or around the buttocks. Some people develop skin tags for no apparent reason, although it is thought that they may be caused by either chafing skin or clothes that rub. People who are overweight may be more prone to developing skin tags due to the folds of skin.

Treatment

At Hilton Skin Clinics, we offer skin tag removal using advanced electrolysis with one our fully qualified practitioners. The skin tags will be cauterized using a minute electrolysis needle. A tiny current will be passed through the needle to cauterize the skin tag, which ensures that the skin tag will not reappear. There is minimal discomfort during treatment and so skin does not usually need to be anaesthetised (larger skin tags may require topical or local anaesthetic). It does not cause scarring. Following treatment, temporary skin discolouration may occur and within a few days, the skin tag will scab up and fall off, leaving skin smooth and blemish free.

After Treatment

Some people are more prone to developing skin tags than others. Usually, only one treatment is necessary, but if you are more prone to developing skin tags you might require multiple treatments if new skin tags then develop.

After treatment, it is important to let the scab form over the skin tag naturally. Do not scratch, itch or rub the area so that the scab can heal naturally. Scratching the skin tag can interfere with healing and cause unnecessary scarring.

Cryopen

The Cryopen is one of the most innovative, state of the art hand held treatment systems on the market today, drastically changing the face of cryosurgery: the practice of freezing skin tags, warts lesions, non-recurrent basal cells and much more. It can quickly, safely and effectively treat a vast range of skin complaints with no need for anaesthesia.

What is the Cryopen?

The Cryopen uses the latest compression cooling technology in order to deliver precise cooling, using a high-pressure jet of nitrous oxide without the need for any heavy, cumbersome or potentially dangerous cooling liquids or equipment. The applicator pen, combined with consistent freezing temperatures, ensures that each and every treatment takes a minimal amount of time with little to no scarring in the treated area.

It works by rapidly cooling the tissue at a rate of 1mm per 5 seconds, allowing practitioners to remove lesions in just seconds. Clients can be in and out of the clinic in just a few minutes and typically only one treatment will be needed per lesion.

What does the Cryopen Treat?

The Cryopen can treat skin lesions of all types, including:

  • Keratosis
  • Warts
  • Skin tags
  • Fibroma
  • Lentigo
  • Non-recurrent basal cells
  • Molluscum
  • Actinic Keratosis

During treatment, the practitioner will cleanse the treatment area before using the Cryopen to erase skin lesions. Treatment is typically very fast and pain-free. Clients can then return to their normal daily activities immediately following the procedure.

For more information about the Cryopen and what it can treat, please contact Hilton Skin Clinics today.

Skin Tightening (Laser)

How it Works

Laser skin tightening works by using safe and targeted near infrared light (NIR). We use the Alma Lasers NIR at Hilton Skin Clinics, which safely and effectively heats the dermis (inner layers of skin), stimulating the production of collagen. The treatment helps to tighten the skin, protecting it against future ageing. A healthy layer of collagen in the dermis will help to provide skin with the elasticity and resilience that it needs, preventing sagging and keeping skin tight and smooth.

Laser skin tightening differs to laser skin resurfacing in that the laser does not affect the top layer of skin. Instead, the laser penetrates deep within the skin, stimulating new cell growth and collagen production from within, a process which causes a tightening effect in the tissue thus making the overlying surface skin look smoother and tighter.

Treatment Areas

Laser skin tightening can be used on a wide range of areas and although it is more commonly used on the face, it can also be used to treat areas of the body, too, such as loose skin on the abdomen after pregnancy. The most common issues that we treat include:

  • sun damage
  • fine lines and wrinkles
  • loose jowls and sagging skin around the neck
  • lines from the nose to mouth
  • drooping brows or forehead
  • bags underneath the eyes

During Treatment

During treatment, we’ll apply a cold gel to the area to be treated. Next, one of our practitioners will pass the Alma Lasers NIR over the surface of skin to deliver very precise and targeted pulses of light to the treatment area. Most people tolerate the treatment extremely well and some even find it painless. Should you feel any discomfort during treatment, our practitioners will always do all that they can to make you feel at ease and comfortable through-out.

Results

Laser skin tightening is usually very effective. Results are often visible after just one treatment and will continue to improve over the days and weeks after treatment as skin cells regenerate and collagen production is stimulated. A course of 3 to 6 treatments will usually be recommended, depending on your specific skin complaint and the area being treated. Maintenance treatments may also be required.

Tattoo Removal (Laser)

Tattoo Removal

Laser tattoo removal is a relatively simple procedure that can produce some astonishing results, depending on the type of tattoo (amateur or professional) and the ink colour or colours within the tattoo. The treatment works very simply: lasers remove tattoos by breaking down the pigment within the tattoo, lightening the skin and minimising the appearance of the tattoo. With repeated treatments, tattoos can vanish completely. Some tattoos are easier to remove than others.

How Does it Work?

During treatment, a precisely targeted wavelength of light is passed over the tattoo. The pigment within the tattoo absorbs the light from the laser, which causes cell damage. This cell damage breaks the tattoo ink down into fragments, and over the weeks following the treatment, these fragments are metabolised and disposed of by the body.

Before Treatment

Before treatment, your tattoo will be analysed to see how effective treatment would be. Black tattoos are the easiest to remove as the pigment within them is easily broken down. Tattoos with red in them are usually more difficult and different wavelengths of light will need to be used. If the ink in the tattoo has been put into skin too deeply, treatment might be slightly more difficult.

What Happens During Treatment?

During laser tattoo removal, skin will be cleansed and a local anaesthetic cream may be applied. You’ll be given goggles to wear. The practitioner will then pass the laser over the surface of the tattoo. Treatment can vary depending on the size of the tattoo. After treatment, patients are advised to take care of the skin, using a high factor SPF sunscreen whilst the skin is still sensitive as well as a tissue repair cream. Patients will experience a mild pricking sensation during treatment, but we can use local anaesthetic creams to minimise discomfort. Over the counter pain medication will minimise any pain following treatment.

How Many Treatments Do I Need?

The number of treatments that you need differs, depending on the colour of the tattoo and how large it is. Generally, you’ll need treatments every four to eight weeks. A course of six to ten treatments is usually enough to erase the tattoo, although you might need fewer or more treatments.

Warts and Verrucas

What Causes Warts?

An infection of HPV (human pappiloma virus) causes warts. You probably won’t know that you’ve got the virus and it is unlikely that it will cause any other symptoms. It causes an increase in the amount of keratin produced by the body, and this excess keratin develops in the epidermis. Keratin is a hard protein, which is what causes the rough, hard texture of the wart. Warts are very contagious and can be passed on through close skin contact. Infection can be caused indirectly though contact with surfaces that may have come into contact with the virus, such as swimming pools, baths and showers, and warts may take a few months to appear following the initial infection.

Treatment

At Hilton Skin Clinics, we offer advanced electrolysis for the treatment of warts and verrucae. A tiny needle is inserted into the growth, and a tiny electric current passed through the needle into the wart. This treatment cauterises the growth, causing it to scab over and fall off. Each treatment takes around 15 minutes, although this might differ depending on the size of the wart. Some types of warts are more resilient to treatment than others and may require additional treatments. Usually, the wart will fall off within about a week of treatment, leaving skin smooth and blemish-free. Treatment is well tolerated with little pain or discomfort.

For more information about the treatment of warts and verrucae, please contact Hilton Skin Clinics today.

JUL

The clinic really give you good advice in how to look after your skin and didn’t seem too pushy when selling what I needed. I ended having the EDS Dermaroller for my face and neck. I was so worried it would be so painful but surprisingly it's not that bad at all but I did have some anaesthetic cream applied before hand.

KATE MONTERIAN

The staff are friendly, professional and very knowledgeable. When I arrived everything was explained to me and it was better than I had originally expected. I can’t wait for the next session of microdermabrasion!! I would now recommend them to my friends too.

BARBARA SOPATA

The clinic is always spotless and has a warm inviting atmosphere. Staff members are extremely knowledgeable about all of their treatments, and they even took the time to speak to me over the phone relating to questions about my treatment before I even booked a consultation. 5 star clinic and would highly recommend to anyone.

S.I

I have had 4 treatments here for laser hair removal. The staff are extremely friendly and the product knowledge is excellent. The Treatment itself, well what can I say except… Pain FREE and after the first patch test, I noticed a significant reduction of hair.

RIZWANA ALI

The Soprano Laser Hair removal is a virtually pain-free treatment and I am very impressed with the results so far and I am only half way through my course. Looking forward to the final results!
