How it Works
Dermalux LED phototherapy harnesses the power of three light wavelengths or colours (red, near infrared and blue light, used individually or combined) to treat a range of skin conditions and complaints, including generally ageing skin, rosacea and problem skin, dermatitis and poor complexion. It works by accelerating the body’s own repair processes to promote healing and cell renewal. During treatment, skin cells absorb the light, using the extra energy to accelerate cell repair or to destroy bacteria. Studies have shown that skin cells exposed to LED light regenerate by up to 150-200% faster than cells not exposed to LED light, with an increase in hydration of up to 600%. The different light wavelengths treat a variety of different skin complaints.
Red Light tends to be used for anti-ageing and to rejuvenate skin and can have the following benefits:
- Smoothes fine lines and wrinkles
- Plumps sagging skin
- Evens skin tone and texture
- Increases hydration
- Soothes redness, irritation and sensitivity
- Speeds up the healing process
- Improves blood and lymphatic circulation, improving skin health
- Restores a youthful glow
Blue Light has powerful anti-bacterial properties and tends to be used for problem skin including acne. It can have the following benefits:
- Reduces acne infection occurrence
- Reduces and helps to fight against infection
- Helps to kill and destroy bacteria present within the skin which cause acne and other problem skin complaints
- Minimises and shrinks large pores
- Decongests problematic, spot-prone skin
Treatment typically takes just 30 minutes and is pain-free – in fact, some patients even report a feeling of wellbeing as exposure to light can actually boost serotonin levels, helping to relieve stress and improve mood. It’s not unheard of for patients to actually fall asleep during treatment and need to be woken at the end! It may also feel slightly warm, and this is simply due to the stimulation of blood circulation. Skin may appear plumper, fuller, brighter and more youthful after just one treatment and results will continue to improve in the days and weeks following treatment. Some patients will have just one treatment to rejuvenate their skin for a special day, whilst others will have a course of treatment to target specific skin complaints, and then go on to have periodic top-up treatments to maintain their results.
