Looking for a boost to get through January? Try IV vitamin therapy

Are you feeling a bit frazzled after the excesses of Christmas? Have you got the January blues? Or, are you simply looking for a detox or pick-me-up to give you back your va-va-voom? Then, read on…as we tell you more about intravenous vitamin drip therapy.

Feeling run down? Have a vitamin drip

Let’s face it, we all love Christmas time; I mean what’s not to love – you get some time off work, there’s opportunities for endless TV watching, and a chance to indulge in food and drink that we probably wouldn’t eat, certainly not in the same quantities or calorific heights, at any other time of the year!

For many, unless you have the whole family over for the holidays, Christmas can also be a time to relax from the usual stresses of school runs, work and the normal day-to-day chores, for a few days or maybe even a couple of weeks.

And then comes New Year, a chance to party with friends and family, stay up late and see in the dawning of the next twelve months with a glass or two of something fizzy.

It all sounds great, doesn’t it?

But a lot of this can be pretty terrible for your health and well-being, leaving you feeling tired and exhausted, over-partied, bloated and sluggish, and in need of a boost for when the wintery start to January and the ‘getting back to normal’ hits you square in the face.

Let’s face it, you’ve been eating the wrong kind of food – the concession of one blackmailed sprout does not one your five-a-day make – and drinking too much alcohol, plus probably staying up late too. Hardly conductive to getting all the vitamins, minerals and key nutrients that you need to stay fighting fit and on top form.

Boost your immune system with intravita IV vitamin therapyI’m a working mother and this last Christmas, after months of being apparently well and in good health, I took some time off to ‘relax’. Or so I thought, as no sooner had I sat down and put my feet up for a moment, I succumbed to a dose of the common cold.

My first reaction was to think about how unfair it all was, but my second reaction was to research why, when I had stopped my usual routine, did I suddenly become ill?

It was at this point that I discovered the concept of ‘leisure sickness’1.

Although not officially recognised by medical science, there are many who believe in the theory and have researched the concept. Ad Vingerhoets, an associate professor of clinical health psychology at Tilburg University in the Netherlands credits it as the idea that illnesses, such as aches and pains or cold and flu-like symptoms increase when the stress of working goes down, or you take a break from a busy schedule.

Esther Sternberg, a researcher of neuroendocrine immunology at the National Institutes of Health in America believes that leisure sickness is a real condition which is related to the kind of hormones that are released when we are stressed, which in turn have an effect on our immune system, often giving it a boost and fending off the need to get ill whilst we simply don’t have the time for it. Take that away, when we choose to relax, and the scientists believe that the chance is you will get ill.

This makes me think that perhaps choosing to slow down a little, maintain a healthier diet, lifestyle and supplement my nutritional intake throughout the year would help to limit the chances of experiencing fluctuations in my immune responses.

Most of us don’t think about how run down we get just trying to keep up with our daily lives, or how poor our diets can be when we grab food ‘on the run’. All of which means that we often don’t ingest as many of the vital vitamins and nutrients that we need to keep ourselves in tip-top condition so that we can even manage our stressful work, social and personal lives, let alone survive an opportunity to go on holiday and relax!
