You Don’t Need to Live With Tattoo Regret – Get Laser Tattoo Removal in Reading

According to a survey from YouGov, the well-known British polling company, approximately 19% of Brits have been ‘inked’ and have one or more tattoos. Around a quarter of Americans are also said to have tattoos, making them a pretty popular ‘accessory’ or body modification in the modern world.

After many years of taboos and tattoo stereo-types linked to sailors and Hell’s Angels bikers, tattoos are now very popular amongst celebrities, and favoured more and more by women and the young than ever before.

Many people would no longer bat an eyelid to learn that a friend, work colleague or family member had a tattoo.

Sadly, though, the decision to have a tattoo can often be little thought through, happening on a whim, sometimes with the involvement of an alcohol-affected mind on a holiday trip abroad, or as a reflection of a passion at a point in time during someone’s life.

This often leads to what is now termed as ‘tattoo regret’, whereby at some point after getting the tattoo, this could be months or even years, the owner of the tattoo comes to dislike it, even hate it and regrets the decision to have the particular image, symbol or text, or even the location of the inking.

Top reasons for tattoo regret include ex-lovers’ names, misspelt foreign words or symbols with incorrect meanings, rude or offensive images and cartoons or images which are no longer fashionable.

Certain styles, once popular and ‘trendy’ are now also viewed with regret, such as Celtic bands, often located around the upper arm in men and so called ‘tramp stamps’ located on the lower back, above the knicker line on women.

Luckily, and unlike puppies, tattoos are not for life and there is a solution – Laser Tattoo Removal can now be used to erase the mistake and remove the offending inking.

Harmony XL Pro

At Hilton Skin Clinics in Reading we are able to offer laser tattoo removal using our new Harmony XL Pro platform which has a Q-Switched Nd:Yag 1064nm wavelength laser for targeting darker coloured tattoos such as black, blue and green, as well as a KTP adaptor which creates a 532nm wavelength laser to treat lighter and bright colours of inks, as have become more popular in recent years, including red, yellow and orange. This device means that we can easily and effectively treat multi-coloured tattoos.

The lasers work by targeting the pigment or colour in the tattoo inks and breaking them up through heat. This makes the ink particles smaller and means that the body is able to metabolise them and thus remove them from within the skin, without damaging the surrounding skin.

Several treatment sessions will be required to remove the ink, depending on the type of tattoo – both the ink colours and the original depth of their placement – as well as the size of the tattoo being removed. You can therefore expect to see a gradual fading of the tattoo in between treatment sessions, which are spaced approximately a month apart to allow the area to heal and the body to flush the ink particles away, before further laser energy is applied. The amount of time needed for a satisfactory removal of the tattoo will depend on the type, location and size.
