Botox…Everybody’s Doing It!

In a recent BBC documentary singer and x-factor star Tulisa Contostavlos admitted to the plastic surgery rumours that had been recently circulating the media. The rumours were sparked after the 26 year old appeared in court supporting a ‘trout pout’, the playful nickname given to overly plumped lips usually created by fillers/Botox.

Tulisa’s Big Botox Reveal…

After her trail Tulisa did admit to having various surgical procedures including Botox and fillers. In a tearful state Tulisa filmed herself admitting she wasn’t as strong as people thought she was and that she was actually very vulnerable. This footage was aired on BBC One and titled ‘Tulisa: The Price of Fame.’

In the documentary Tulisa also admitted to undergoing cosmetic surgery, but also denied rumours of having work done to her nose, putting it down to clever contouring with make up as well as weight loss stating: ‘So losing a stone, filler in my cheeks, my lips done and the contouring – and people do think, oh gosh, you look so different.’

It’s safe to say Tulisa’s look is dramatic, and it has been said that her lips may have been over done a little, but of course this is down to personal opinion. Tulisa claims to love her look, but with the top cosmetic surgeons available to her, if we are thinking about under going Botox and fillers how can we be sure we won’t end up with a botched job?

Choose Wisely…

Botox is bigger than ever and more and more of us are turning to it to improve our appearances, smoothing out lines and ‘freezing’ our faces in their younger state. Whilst for many Botox can be a great solution and make us feel a million dollars, for some when Botox goes wrong it can be a living nightmare.

Unfortunately it’s no secret that there are people out there claiming to be qualified to administer Botox that are in fact amateurs, so how can you sort the wheat from the chaff? Follow this checklist to ensure your procedure is safe and will deliver the results you are looking for-

  • Do your research. Look up reviews, do a good and thorough Google and make sure there’s nothing strange about the practice lurking on the World Wide Web.
  • Consultations are a must and it’s important to find a doctor or nurse practitioner that understands and meets your needs. See several to determine who is best for you.
  • Check their medical expertise. Are they qualified in facial anatomy? A qualified doctor or nurse practitioner should always administer Botox.
  • Ask to see before and after photos of the result you should expect, this way you know you are both clear about the end result that you desire.
  • Check the doctor or nurse practitioner is registered with the relevant regulatory authority. In the UK this is the GMC for doctors or NMC for nurse practitioners. Also check if they have appropriate insurance cover.

Botox can be a great thing when used correctly. It can restore and boost confidence, make us feel less self-conscious and over all help us feel proud of our appearances. If you’re considering Botox do your homework and make sure your end result is exactly what you were hoping for.
