Answers to the most common questions about Botox

BOTOX! The ever-growing word within the beauty industry. What is it? How does it work? Does it hurt? What are the typical reactions? The list of questions is ever growing about this specific non-surgical procedure. Below are lists of the most common questions we get asked about Botox each day. We have worked with our team to give you the best answers.

What is Botox?

The first thing to let everyone know is that Botox is a product not the actual procedure. Botox is a medical product that is produced and distributed by Allergan Inc. an American pharmaceutical company.

How does Botox work?

There are tiny muscles in the face that once injected with Botox, will temporarily reduce them from contracting and because those muscles are no longer contracting, lines and wrinkles are softened and reduced. Botox is injected with an incredibly thin needle. It can be used between the brows, to soften harsh lines on the forehead, the corners of the mouth and even on wrinkles that develop on the neck.

Will I still be able to smile or frown?

As long as you work with an experienced Aesthetic Clinic that administer Botox properly you should see a slight “lift” and the area would soften. Your smiling, frowning will be effected, you’ll still be about to pull funny faces too! Numbness is also something you should not feel when Botox is injected as it has no effect on the nerves that control and cause sensation.

Do Botox injections hurt?

Saying Botox is painless would be a lye. However, the extremely thin needle keeps pain to a very slight minimum. Like any injection, it depends on that specific person threshold, however most will usually experience a stinging sensation when the Botox is injected, but this is only very temporary and should subside soon after treatment. Anaesthetic isn’t usually required, although this is available if required.

Does Botox have any side effects?

Side effects are a rarity. An experience of slight redness, swelling or bruising may affect some patients, but this tends to subside within a day or two and can be treated easily with anti-inflammatory medication if necessary.

How long does Botox last?

Generally, though, results can last anywhere from three to four months. Results always vary from patient to patient.

When will I see results?

Again, results vary from patient to patient, and although you might not see instant results, but be assured – you’ll see them soon!

How long does the treatment take?

Depending on treatment areas and how many areas, most of the time 15minutes is long enough to produce the best results, so of course this has become a popular treatment during lunch hours and after working hours too. It’s quick and very effective. Botox is non-surgical, which means that there is no recovery time – you can go right back to your normal daily activities following treatment.
